I am about to begin an ER internship at a bulge bracket. I have been told that around 50% of the interns get a full time offer at the end. Thus, I am trying to maximize my chances. Could anybody here give some advice on how to perform well as a research intern? Is there any relevant technical skills that I should be familiar with (e.g., VBA)?

Make sure you always come in before and leave after the analyst your work for. Pay attention to detail. Only make mistakes once. Don't worry about the actual know-how, they are aware that you're learning and if you get lucky your analyst will be willing to teach. If you are told which industry you will be covering in advance, try to read as much as possible about it before you join.
